About Us
Edenburg Lodge No. 550 meets in Knox, Pennsylvania and has served this community since 1877 under the jurisdiction of the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania.
We are men committed to integrity, growth, and service.
Freemasonry uses tradition, symbolism, and shared experience to challenge us to become better leaders, better husbands, better fathers, and better citizens. Our core principles are simple and timeless: Brotherly Love. Charity. Truth.
That work doesn’t stay inside our walls.
You’ll find us supporting local causes, hosting community events, partnering with neighbors, and showing up when it matters. We believe a Lodge should be visible, active, and invested in the place it calls home.
Edenburg (Knox) Borough - circa 1876A Tradition That Endures
Freemasonry’s modern era began in 1717 with the formation of the Grand Lodge of England.
In 1731, the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania became the first Grand Lodge in the United States.
During a period of strong growth for the Craft in the United States, Edenburg Lodge No. 550 was constituted on March 16, 1877 in what was then, the borough of Edenburg, Pennsylvania. The borough was renamed “Knox” in 1933, but we proudly retained the name Edenburg to honor our beginnings.
Our founding was attended by the Right Worshipful Grand Master, the District Deputy Grand Master, other Grand Lodge officers, 21 Warrant Members, and an impressive 168 Masonic Brothers representing 30 lodges.
Original Alter Bible used in 1877Our first meetings were held on the third floor of the Bennett House on Main Street. Presiding over these meetings was our first Worshipful Master, Brother Francis Merrick, a local entrepreneur.
Just one year later, the Lodge relocated across the street to the third floor of the Kribbs and Son building - a move that proved fortunate, as the Bennett House was soon destroyed by fire.
Sixty-two years later, in 1940, our members purchased and refurbished a two-story brick building on E. State St. which continues to serve as our Lodge home today.
Many of our original 1877 furnishings remain in use, and every handwritten minute book has been preserved. Nearly 150 years of continuous Brotherhood - still active, still relevant.
